Module Notes
Relocation of a parent can significantly impact the dynamics of a parenting plan, necessitating adjustments to the schedule and possible other arrangements.
Notification of Relocation
- Notify the other parent as soon as possible
- Transparent and timely discussions
- Evaluate whether the proposed move will require a change in the parenting schedule, considering:
- Distance of the move
- Feasibility of maintaining the current schedule
- Potential need for adjustments to transportation arrangements
Court Considerations for Relocation
- Whether the move aligns with the best interests of the children
- How the relocation might affect the children's relationship with the non-relocating parent
- Children’s connections to their current community, including their schools, friends, and extracurricular activities
- May also review the proposed new living arrangements, the quality of the educational system in the new location, and any special needs of the children
