Can spousal support be “permanent”?
In very long marriages with substantial differences in income, there may be spousal support payments that last until death. More often, in long marriages, spousal support is “indefinite” in that it continues until there is a substantial change in circumstances. Retirement is a common end to this long-term type of support, but there could be other reasons to end long-term support and not have it continue to death.
