Our current incomes are unusual in light of what we earned over the course of the marriage, does this matter?
It might. In a cash flow analysis, it is typically a forward-looking analysis based on budgets and income moving forward. If there is a relevant reason why current incomes and budgets are not in line with expectations moving forward, then you may look to historical earnings. Historical earnings may also be considered in budgeting if the standard of living during the marriage was typically based on lower earnings than at the time of divorce.
