Questions

Where do I find the "legal description" of real property or real estate?

You can find the legal description of a property on the deed, title, or mortgage documents. It is also available through county property records or your local assessor's office. The description on your tax assessment is not always accurate so you will typically want to find the legal description from either your closing documents or something provided directly from your county. It is important to have an accurate legal description in your divorce documents and to transfer title if one of you is keeping it.
