What is a “kitchen table” divorce?

Some people can work the details of a divorce out on their own and draft up their own divorce papers without legal help.  This is sometimes referred to as a “kitchen table” divorce because the couple works out their divorce sitting together at a table. This is most common in a fairly simple situation like a short marriage and/or no children.
